Now that Open Gardens is over for at least another year I can ease off the pressure. It’s time to enjoy all the work we’ve been doing in the garden since the beginning of January. Apart from keeping the grass down, hoeing the kitchen garden and keeping an eye on the pond, there isn’t a huge amount to do. I’m not having to water too much as temperatures are still below average for this time of year. We’re expecting rain tomorrow so there’s no need to make work or waste water. We’ve had so much rain that our 14 x 1000 litre tanks are full. The kitchen garden is mulched and everything seems to be growing just fine.

This morning I disturbed a large Lacerta Viridis on my way through the gate to the kitchen garden, then just minutes later, another one shot out of the strawberry bed where I was harvesting some ripe fruit. It seems that lizards like strawberries. Who doesn’t?

Wildlife is welcome in the garden, but I’m particularly happy to see lots of bees drinking from the pond and collecting pollen from all the bee-friendly flowers we’ve sown & planted.

This week I have been listening to:
