16/1/24 - A bit more sowing
I woke to the thickest fog imaginable, and not much evidence of the moon so at 7am it was pitch black. Nevertheless, by 10:30 the sun came out and the day developed into a beauty.
It was 25℃ in the greenhouse, so just perfect for sowing some more aguadulce broad beans. I sowed a whole heap in the autumn but these will take us well into spring. I also sowed spinach, all season cauliflowers and red bunching onions. They’re all in trays on the hotbed.
Meanwhile ¡Hola! spent the same time trying to locate a creature that was making noises under the worktop. It could be a lizard, mice or a hibernating couleuvre de Montpellier - a benign snake. Fortunately I’m so untidy that the storage rack is crammed with stuff so ¡Hola! can’t get at whatever is there.
I also spent some time hoeing in the vegetable garden. I’ve let it get out of hand so I’m hoeing with my favourite hand weeding tool from Niwaki. It’s razor sharp and does the job with least fuss.
While weeding I broke off some brassica leaves for the hens. They seemed delighted.
