Night-time shenanigans
I was shocked to find that lots of my lettuces and other young plants had suffered a night time attack by a creature unknown. I wondered about rabbits, but I’ve only ever seen two in the garden, and never in the potager. I suspected small birds like tits but I really wasn’t sure, especially as I’ve now netted a good proportion of the younger plants.
Imagine my surprise when I looked at the photos taken by the wildlife camera. A woodcock! Sitting within a couple of feet from the camera was a plump, squat woodcock. Apparently they just look for worms, insects and small critters like that, so I don’t think they are responsible for the damage. I’m going to leave the camera running to see if I can spot who is pinching the salads. Little blighter.
