Ready in a jiffy

My pal Colleen brought me a present. It was a bag of Jiffy Coco pellets. They are for growing seeds in and I hadn’t seen them before, although, on reflection, I have bought young plants which had been raised in them. Here’s how to use them. I’ve used aubergine seeds here, but they’d work for any medium sized seed. The great joy is that they are sterile, contain just what the young seedling will need and the whole thing can be potted on once the seedling has got to the two proper leaf stage.

Then you add water – not too much

Then they swell up and you pop a seed into the tiny indentation at the top

Then poke the seed in a bit with a pencil and give the jiffy plug a gentle squeeze at the top to enclose the seed
